Day 5 (Birmingham & Selma, Alabama):

Body of Denise McNair reburied at Birmingham's Elmwood Cemetery

The body of Civil Rights era bombing victim Denise McNair, was moved Sunday from Shadow Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery to a family plot at Birmingham's Elmwood Cemetery.

McNair, was one the four girls killed in 16th Street Baptist Church bombing during 1963. She was 11 years old.

The McNair family moved her remains after a private memorial service.

Her father Chris McNair declined today to discuss the move and said other family members would prefer to remain silent.

"The McNairs are pretty private about Denise and the family," Doug Jones, McNair's attorney, said. "They just felt like the time was right now to move Denise's body to where the family is."

Jones said the move is an example of parents wanting their family buried together.

"It is just parents wanting to make sure they have their children close to them, even in death," Jones said. "Chris and Maxine will ultimately be buried there and they felt like the timing was right."
